In Search of the Rare and Beautiful On Friday, June 22, 2012, will be hosting our annual walk led by Jack Johnston to see the rare Mountain Camellia (Stewartia ovata) in bloom. Join members of LTLT on the annual quest to find the rare mountain camelia which is known to exist in only a few mountain locations, this member of the tea family produces one of the most spectacular blooms found in the region. The large white flowers of this small tree, when seen from a distance, sometimes cause it to be mistaken for late dlowering dogwood. It is quite rare, and the only member of the tea family in the Smokies.
